Lurie College is Hiring a Part-Time Community College Coordinator!

The Community College Initiative (CCI) is a new project of the Lurie College of Education at SJSU!
Through certificate programs, professional development workshops, and regional convenings, the CCI will support community college faculty and staff to develop the knowledge, skills, and understandings needed to effectively teach and lead dynamic institutions that serve diverse student communities.  Under the general direction of the Director of Student Success, Recruitment and Alumni Engagement the CCI will take a leading role in engaging with project partners across campus and across the region.

Essential Functions and Associated Tasks
Engage multiple stakeholders to assess professional development needs for community college faculty and staff. Identify expertise from among SJSU faculty and community college partners to support the design and implementation of professional development programming.
Facilitate the design of professional development programs for community college faculty and staff. Bring together experts from within the college, across campus, and the community colleges themselves to craft an overall plan and design the component parts. These programs may include, but are not limited to, the following: (1.) Teaching certificate for current and future community college faculty. (2.) Community college leadership certificate for individuals interested in exploring leadership roles (e.g. dean, director, Vice President) within the community college system. (3.) Community college workshops and convenings to provide on-going professional development for community college leaders.
Collaborate with Lurie College of Education Dean’s Office and faculty in the Educational Leadership program in the design and implementation of programs. In particular, it will be essential to coordinate with the planned MA in Higher Education Leadership and with MA and MS discipline-focused programs across campus.
Coordinate with cross-campus partners such as PGE, the College of Graduate Studies, the registrar’s office, financial aid, etc. to manage all documentation and resources needed to gain program approvals and ensure successful implementation of CCI programs, attending to details such as course scheduling, instructor contracts, online and on-site technology support, budget management, etc.
Work with the Lurie College of Education communications team and Student Success Center to market CCI programs, manage outreach to prospective students, manage enrollment, and ensure enrollment and program completion targets are met.
Liaise with community colleges and other community partners throughout the program design and implementation process, ensuring that the programs are responsive to community college needs and include hands-on practical experiences offered in partnership with community college partners.
Collaborate with Lurie College of Education’s Director of Assessment & Accreditation to design and implement program assessments. Use findings from assessments to support continuous program improvement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required to perform the Essential Functions 
Strong focus on educational equity and understanding of the role that access to STEM and CS learning plays in promoting (or limiting) opportunities for K-12 students. Ability to speak to the need for STEM+C preparation for future educators.
Ability to quickly learn and apply CCTC, CSU and SJSU policies and procedures.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Must possess excellent customer service and public relations skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with students, faculty, and employees.
Ability to handle multiple priorities, organize and plan work and projects.
Familiarity with survey tools and the ability to analyze survey data.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the work group and serve as a liaison for the institute.
Thorough knowledge of software applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Dedication to seeing tasks to completion.
Demonstrated commitment to educational equity and access in higher education. Knowledgeable about research related to higher education, student success, and pedagogical practices.
Demonstrated understanding of and ability to employ transformative pedagogical practices that are responsive to the strengths, needs, and interests of diverse college student communities.
Demonstrated ability to bring diverse stakeholder groups together to develop a common vision and work collaboratively to design and implement programs that align with that vision.
Ability to see the big picture while also attending to the details.
Self-starter who is able to take on a large, complex project and see it through to completion.
Ability to drive off campus to various locations. Must provide a CA driver’s license documentation prior to start date.
Qualifications
Education: A Master’s degree or equivalent experience in education.
Experience: Experience managing logistics of outreach, communicating to a variety of audiences

Consultant Work Schedule/Location
This is a part time position for the calendar year. Hours may be increased to full time during peak recruitment times. There may be an opportunity to grow and expand the position in subsequent years. Additionally, depending on applicant interest and expertise, there may be an opportunity to combine this role with other Lurie College roles such as lecturer, field supervisor, and/or program coordinator for other program(s) to create a full time position.
Compensation
Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience
